Passing the CFA level 2 probably will not have a material impact on your compensation. It really depends on the size of the shop--smaller shops, particularly those trying to grow, will not be able to pay anywhere near as much as a good sized shop. I know an analyst working at a very small shop that has only been around for about 8 years. He has a top 20 mba and there is no way he pulls in 100k all in. But he does work in a low cost of living city, so naturally his salary is lower.
So Danny Boy is probably correct. You should be cautious about anything under 100k since that probably implies a rinky-dink firm that will be trying to cut costs at every turn, which can make for a challenging work environment. You probably don't want to work somewhere like that unless you get stock options in the company, and maybe not even then.
