yeah, its CA or nothing. now a CPA is slightly respectable, but hardly. its better to just take the plunge and get the one and only designation. its like if someone came up with a Certified Finance Master. would the CFA or CFM be better? likely the CFA

Fair enough. I think I would just pick up some more detailed books and learn it on my own.

I think the quality of the designation is reflected in the people that have them . All Charter holder’s and Actuaries . I have come across are intelligent and well rounded people . I have definitely met some not so bright CA’s . I would’nt even consider the CGA / CMA as comparable .
IMO the actuary exams are probably the most difficult ( relative to other professional exams )

Well said.

Hey AliMan - not bad, still plugging away at the search with a few leads; I’m onto my secondary list of contacts, but I think most seemingly dead-ends end up turning into useable contacts anyways, so I’m not shying away from anything.
Just heard from a buddy who lost his post (industry side) this AM, a bit disheartening. But I’ve been told that I’m doing everything right on the search side, just gotta keep up the motivation.
All this free time definitely lets me train for the IFOCE though; it’s great!

Yeah, I’m sure something will turn up. Keep trying! If things go sour here, I will be joining you at IFOCE events.

Back to the CA/CGA/CMA/CPA issue.
I too want to get some accounting know how or atleast prove to prospective employers that I have it without going through the 2 year bean counting process.
With that in mind is it best just to get the CPA even tho im in Canada? Eventually I want to be in a corp finance or venture cap role and evaluating Fin Statements are key in those areas.

OMG I was just about to start a new thread about this and here it is already!
Ok, so my friend told me today about the CeFA in the UK. When this guy said he was doing the CFA I nearly fell of my chair, but I miss heard and he actually said CeFA.
I’d never heard of it before here in the UK, and here is a typical link:
http://www.ifslearning.ac.uk/qualifications/courses/cefa.cfm
Has anyone heard of this before or heard of anyone doing it/getting it? What do people feel about it?
I’m concerned that people not-in-the-know will treat the CeFA and the CFA as equivalents, when they are NOT!
Am I correct in saying that besides an MBA, the CFA is the toughest professional certification out there?
Let me know your thoughts.
