So I just got the news I passed level 2, what recommendations/methods/timing do you suggest? When should I start? Should I use the CFA curriculum first and then read Schweser?

Just teasing. Take it easy. You will need the curriculum more than before. Schwesser should be back up this time around. The schwesser practice exam will nevertheless remain very critical.

i would take the rest of the day off then go balls to the wall in GIPS starting tomorrow kid.

I will likely buy the material next week and then let it collect dust until mid-January

NO WAY i would start studying until 5-6 months prior to exam.
I wouldn’t be able to take studying seriously and i would not be able to remember anything.
PLUS, people, LIFE HAS SO MUCH MORE TO OFFER!
(and this is coming from a Japanese!)

cheers,
NANA ^_^

The best part: this material may or may not be on the exam.
Welcome to Level 3.
Soo…why is your link the 2012 3rd edition, but the GIPS page says 2010 is the current edition?
For you to find out ;)
Also know cutoff dates 2006, 2005, and 2000. Oh the joy you’re about to get into.

You can definitely start later than level 2. Key thing is to get to the point where you are drilling practice exams early on (end of April).

I will try to register later (probably December deadline or even March) not to have this thing in mind at all and not to see these books, so that they do not depress me.
I believe in magic numbers and the ‘Monday effect’, therefore I will start on 1/1/2014.
Until that time I will forget about CFA and the exams and will let myself focus on other things in life.
I feel sorry for psychologically unbalanced dudes, starting to study tomorrow. Have a life!
Moreover, research has shown that intensive courses are more effective than lazy extended ‘masturbation’ one hour a day for 12 months. However I will plan reasonable time (~5 months of 10-15 hours a week) .

I’ll prob register as soon as it opens.. Take a briefing flock though the books, get a plan together and start on November reading the material. If I can get a first read done by jan 1st I’ll be happy.

I think I’m going to start reading earlier than I did for the last two exams, but very casually the first time through. I want to keep this stuff fresh in my head without burning out.

My plan is to start early November, and maybe use CFAI Books for the first time! I passed level II on first temp. using schweser, but i was not satisfied with the material at all!

Well we don’t know if we pass L3 yet so watch out for who’s advice you take. If you want to be comfortable come June, I would start “soft-studying” come mid-late October with the goal of finishing the curricullum by early to mid January. Then go hardcore legit studying there after. That’s if you want to insure a pass imo. People have done less and pass.

hey guys. given only the CURRICULUM is available now…seems like schweser etc isnt available yet…is it really true that we can only start with the curriculum at this stage?
thanks!

for some reason i feel like i want to start reading soon. i know that that’s a bad idea though
Will probably start doing a few hours on weekdays in october and hope to have a full read through done by January then start proper 15-20 hours a week in Jan through until the exam.
will wait until the cfai books arrive to make the call on how long it will take for a full read through. i hear that there’s less material than L2 and this year there are 8 less readings.
any views from 2013 candidates on how many hours a full read through of the CFAI text or schweser would take for an average candidate?

You can use 2013 Schweser books now if you want.
The materials don’t change all that much, in fact, they re-use a lot of their mock exams!

i suggest glancing over the materials once very quickly, even just the topics or end of chapters summery to give yourself a mental preparation.
