which financial calculator should i buy to help with my preperation?

I used BA II, and honestly, choice of your calculator is not going to make or break your results. What really matters is that you are very comfortable using your machine, in which case you will save valuable time during the exam.

Pls. do a search on this topic, there is a lot of useful info posted.
I think i will go in for the TI, as the HP uses a RPN method. From what i understand, the diff is as follows:

TI u enter 7 X 5 = 35
HP u enter 7 5 X = 35

Im used to the TI format, so i go with what i know.
HP is apparently faster.

I think Prep. folks ask you to stick with the style you are comfortable with. Another point, I would make is that calculation speed is not going to make a significant difference in the exam. At most, maybe 30 seconds over a 3 hour exam.

I would again stress that mastering your calculator, whatever you pick, is going to really help you save time during the exam. This will make up for any speed differential between the 2 machines.

caspian: Yes, you cannot speak into a calculator. CFAI does not allow that during an exam.
