Does anyone know what the job opportunities are in Singapore and Hong Kong in buy-side or sell-side equity research for candidates who do not speak an Asian language, but who are otherwise qualified?
I would guess that if you are doing ER in Asia, you are covering local companies and you need to be able to do channel checks locally as well as conducting primary and secondary research. Not speaking the language could make your job very difficult. No delusions about it, it is definitely a handicap.
English is widely used in both HK and Singapore. I don’t think it would be a problem. If you were in Shanghai, that could be a problem (not in the workplace, but everywhere else).
