It never ceases to amaze me that MLK, Jr. gets a national holiday when people like Albert Einstein, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Edison, George Washington, Harry Truman, and Alexander Hamilton (to name a few), who have done far more for America than MLK, Jr. did, would have no national holiday. The civil rights movement was well on its way with or without MLK, Jr. He was a good man who did a lot of good, but his accomplishments pale in comparison to the aforementioned. What about John Brown for God’s sake? A white man trying to lead a revolution to free slaves–he willingly gave his life for freedom! What about General Sherman, who decimated the south and won the war against slavery?
My university didn’t give MLK, Jr. day off until 2004 after being called “racists” by the black and “progressive” community. I resent this. I love how liberals throw around the term “ignorant” when most of them wouldn’t know who John Brown even was or what Alexander Hamilton even did–hell, most liberals who throw around the term “ignorant” probably couldn’t even name MLK, Jr’s accomplishments, or the accomplishments of his namesake during the reformation.
