Hey Kees, spud... I'm from London (hence the name) and I passed Level 1 (woo hooooo)!

How did you guys do?

Guys, I'm from SE London and I have started my preparations for Dec, hope you guys have stepped up to it too. I am working with schweser study notes, thinking of getting the CFA books as well as the qbank. Never too much effort...
I think the rainy summer in UK is good, because you know there isn't alot you're missing - outdoor activities - alot to sacrifice taking CFA.

Anyway guys i have little FS experience and i'm having difficulties with FSA and all the balance sheet calculations. so i guess as time goes on we should be assisting each other with our problems.

Me too. Just failed and so am retaking in December. Also seem to be the only person in the world who failed the ethics section so if anyone has any tips they would be most appreciated.

I am newbie i wouldnt know know but I guess ethics deserves all the attention it will get this time around.

I am here in London for the Summer. Just passed level I.

Congratulations for all of you who passed !!
I just failed and have to fight again.
As I noticed in the examination room, there is a loooooooooooooot of poeple from London.
We should try to keep in touch via this forum and help each others to pass in December !!!
Are you working ?
I moved in London (from Paris if there is any french here) to work at the beginning of the year, and working + studying is a hard task but if we all succed we will have a good party in December.
What a crappy weather, this morning I thought we were in November and only have few weeks to study !!!!!

But what's confusing me is that in all my practice papers i never got below 80% on ethics. However for pm i never got above 50% and then scored over 70% on the exam. Wierd. Anyway definitely agree with Kees (esp on the weather front) that we should use each other and this forum as a motivator. Don't know about anyone else taking it for the second time but the thought of giving up my life for another four months when i worked so hard the last time is not filling me with joy. What texts are you guys using?

I used the Schweser texts. I didn't use anything else and had fantastic results. To be honest, I followed the recommended study program of a study session per week and then the practice exams. It worked great.

I would be happy to provide my input from my readings. What is the structure you guys are following? I am planning to do Eco last as it holds the least weight. It would help if we provide feedbacks on the topic names that we have completed so that we can ask each other questions around that. Any other suggestions?

I will also be posting my questions as a new topic in the Forum, so guys please look out for my name where possible.

Thanks.

I used Schweser, I also bought the Schweser Video CDs. The Videos were great, they were not comprehensive, but really supplemented my study. I used them to run over sections that I concidered that I understood - if I understood and could follow the video, I didnt bother reading the Schweser text. For instance I didnt use the text for Economics. This mean that I was able to cover Economics in a few days (not incuding practice questions !). They also reinforced my understanding of section like FSA (Tough, tough section - but has to be understood)

With regard to Ethics, I read the standards handbook that I downloaded from the CFA website in Jan. I didnt revist before the exam. The only other work I did on ethics was practice questions 2 weeks before the exam. I tried not to over think Ethics. I kept it simple and it worked

My best and most used resource were practice papers and questions. I sat mock exams 3 and 2 weeks before match day. First I sat BSAS and then BPP (I failed both - badly !). I would highly recommend sitting an exam in exam conditons before you sit the real thing. This helped me with timing and exam technique etc. One week before the exam I printed a number of example exams, I worked through these in 1.5 hr sessions. Going into the exam I was averaging approx 70% in these

Hope this is of some use. Good luck for December !!

I should also add that I got my Schweser material through BPP. If you are in London and sitting lvl 1 in Dec, I would not recommend them. I found the information that they gave me wasn't very good and I wasn't very impressed with the tutors etc

Dont pay a middle man, go to Schweser directly - save your money for BSAS exam etc

yep u right ? But too many poeple from everywhere in London, that is why we like this city ( and for the money I agree, but not for the weather) !!!!
Where did you find some mock exams ? Except from the CFA website !!!!!
No pb Dipti Mathur, I will check for ur new topics !!!
Hope it will be good that time !!
Do all of u plan to take the CFA L2 next June ?
What a busy year !!!!

mock exams: BSAS (Boston CFA society, run a search we discuss it all the time), Schweser (Book 6 and "Practice Exam book"), Stalla etc helped me in my L1-3 preparations
