Does anyone know why CFA exam questions should not be discussed? What is the basis for such a regulation? Is it fair on the part of CFA Institute to load up exam takers with fear of ethics violation and legal recourse for discussing exam questions?
Can someone please give me perspective from the CFA Institute side? I am unable to understand this strange and seemingly unfair rule?
Lawyers in the forum please opine if the stand taken by CFA Institute is legally tenable? Does any other similar institute prevent exam takers from discussing exam Qs? (GMAT is one I can recall but not sure if they need exam takers to keep their mouth shut).

IMHO, (I dont know if thats CFAI’s opinion as well) having a dump of questions can make the exam standard to go down definitely. May be this is the reason CFAI has this? I dont know, but I have no problem frankly with the rule.

I think it is a stupid rule. If the exam is a secret why does CFAI publish mocks? And sample exams? Also, there is no secret what the topics are and the actual questions supposedly come from the topics.
It’s the same stupid rule that mocks must not be passed around! How strange! They publish the mocks for the year, but if you are a first-time taker, according to CFAI, you are in violation if you look at previous years’ mocks. Apparently, if you are a 2-time or 3-time taker and you happened to have a copy of the old mocks, you’re fine…. only first-time takers are doomed, according to CFAI way of thinking.
They are free to make up their own rules, and I’m free to call them stupid.

Agreed. One of the craziest institute!! Never understand the logic of several thousand constraints!

hey dreary how went your exam?
It’s what I expected and that’s how they always did it… basic questions which require good understanding. My grade meter is broken as it usually shows a ggood sign, but then result comes in and it’s a lemon. Last year I was band 10, so I can’t imagine it being less than band 10 this year.
