For those of you that have completed the CFA or an MBA at a notable university -- was/is the sacrifice worth it?? I don't mean in financial terms. There are enough threads and info online that strongly suggest that it is worth it, financially.

Considering I'm 30, married with children and starting a new career path, from accounting to finance -- the most important thing to me is my family. I would like to enroll in a respectable MBA program, I doubt I can get into or afford a top tep university -- Vanderbilt seems to be my best option -- but I know working on a 2 year program and the CFA will put a strain on my family. And even if I do survive and complete both -- I don't want a job that will have me living out of my office missing my children growing up. So I'd rather get an MBA right where I am, Arkansas State University, and complete the CFA. Or, am I wasting my time??

First, education is never wasted. Just don't try to do both all at once. With your family goals and all, you may find it difficult to do well on all three (family, MBA, and CFA).

I did my BS in Business and my MBA in my 40s. Both degrees were worth it. More than the added $$$, they allowed for more career options. The doctorate didn't add $$$, but was fun. I did have to give up some social time, not the family important stuff, however for the most part, the trade off was worth it in the long run.

I can't say how or even if the CFA will add much, as I will be sitting for Lev 1 in December. However, I am sure there are folks here that can answer the CFA question.
