Being a retail financial advisor (LPL) should I go for the CFA? My goal is to gain more knowledge about investing and have a credential to go inside if I get tired of chasing prospects. Does this make sense?

Why not? Gaining more knowledge is as good a reason as any other. In my own case, started at 36 and finished at 38.

If he did level 1 when he was 36 and level 3 when he was 38. Yeah, it’s possible.

Given your goals - increased knowledge and helping your chances of finding a new job - sure, go for it. Just depends if you want to spend the time.
Your best bet would be to find a large RIA and get on board with them. Easiest transition from an FA role to something more analytical.

Aren’t these CFA jobs for young ivy-leaguers only?

Or think of it as 4 months of vacation, 300 movies, 4 hours/week of exercise for three years, or an hour a day for 2 years to play with your kids.

Go for it!!! If there is something you want to do and it will make you happy then go for it. Never stop in your pursuit of happiness. You’re only 40 years old!! If we put your age into 1 day schedule your life clock is at 2PM. It is still early afternoon and you got a whole day ahead of you. You can do so much at 2 in the afternoon!

Entirely plausible. I took Levels 1 & 2 at age 30 and Level 3 at 31. Donezo.
