Yeah, that is about standard for entry-level back office work at a custodian.

And where is that experience going to take you? To supervisor of that department?

does any sort of custodial experience help to land an anlyst or similar position later on ??

the straight answer is no. That doesn't mean it's impossible, but the custody experience is not gonna get you there on its own.

that job will not get you too far. it is a job for people who are college educated, but just barely intelligent enough to hold white collar jobs. its not an insult, hard work and focus can take you a long way in the field, but the upside of "a long way in the field" is some lower-middle management position and a dodge stratus. i was in it for a year right out of college, if you are well educated/enjoy using your brain, you will be unhappy after a month.

did the experience help you later on in any way ?? I mean in terms of landing a postion in investment mgmnt. I would hate to be in a position where I get bored after a month and see my job leading me in a direction i dont wanna go ..thz kind of the positon i'm in now ...

cfeige is dead-on about that career track. i also started in a role somewhat similar to this one out of college...it certainly didnt help get me where i am today. thinking about my pathetic old boss in ops, the back office lifer that he was, used to keep me up at night. it was a life of tedious, banal and unfulfilling work, relatively little pay, micromanagement, no perks, no respect (even as head of ops at a 100 ppl hedge fund, only about 15 people even knew his name. the rest just made fun of him), no real authority, no upside...well, you get the idea.

anyway, i would not recommend making a lateral move to another back office unless there's significantly more money or some kind of opportunity to get you in front of the investment management people. the job description you posted doesnt seem to fit those criteria. you gotta realize that the experience from these back office jobs isnt going to be what gets you on the other side - it's going to be developing relationships, self-study, and actually being bright at analysis.

you could move within ops to a client service position/Re then move sidewards to a client.

the posting above was not the position that i'm considering ...that was posted by somebody else ....the position that I m considering includes a lot more client contact and liason with the IM's and traders ...

bump ..

anybody else have any insght /feedback regarding state street as a company ??

hey how is the work environment there ?? what area do you work in ??
the reason i'm askin is that i got an offer for a position there and i need some additional insight maybe from somebody who works there or has worked there ...the pay is lower than i expected but i dont want to rule it out if it can help me out long term ...

Rudeboi, it sucks.... dont' take it... horrible perks and benefits, crappy BO work, worse immature people... me and a couple of co-workers are already going to quit soon and we've been here like 2 months.... =)
