So i currently work front-office at an investment firm, would i need approval from my employer if I was to work as either a bartender or kitchen hand in the evenings and on weekends. I am doing this to gain experience within the food and drinks industry (maybe open one up down the track) and I can safely say that I won’t let the 2nd job interfere with my main work.
Do i need clearance?

As long as you’re not competing with your employer – and it doesn’t sound as though your employer tends bar or slings hash – and it doesn’t adversely affect your job performance (e.g., you don’t fall asleep at work), then it’s not an ethics violation.
That said, some employers (especially in the financial sector) are quite totalitarian and want to know this stuff. I’d suggest asking your compliance officer (who will probably laugh), just to be safe.

Do you have the series 7? If so you must get permission from your employer.

doesnt make sense.. front office investment firm and working as a kitchen hand.. sure would be awesome to hang out at a bar an make 200 bucks a night a week but isnt your free time worth more than that?

tell you what … you can take my bartending job, and I’ll take your front office job … and we’ll call it an even trade, yes?
