I just finished FSA today, going to finish up the lectures 2day and 2morrow then on to Corporate Finance and PM. FSA wasn't too bad. A couple of hard sections but I think once I go over it a couple of times I'll be okay. A lot of formula manipulation. It's funny because I took two accting classes in college and got A's in both classes but never really understood what I was learning until after reading this book. I think I picked up accting quicker then Econ.

I haven't really reviewed any Econ or Quant I've just been going forward to the next book. I figure I have enough time to go back and review everything once I'm done. At the same I don't want to forget everything, what has everyone else been doing in regards to retaining the information?

Good Luck June Testers!

You've got to be kidding me. Relax, its 6 months away. Most succesful L1'ers begin in September.

jp-rl-cfa, you and me are on the same boat, I am actually finishing FSA today and sitting for December exam as well. I finished reading ethics, quant( I am thinking of going back and reading it again) and economics. The same thing happened to me too, I took two accouting classes in college and After i read CFA book I realized that i have learned more. It is really good to have someone going in the same rate as I am becuase we can discuss stuff together here in the forum. the good thing about it is you will ask the same questions that i probably will be dealing with since we are in the same session. I wanted to start reading the next book, but I am thinking of going back and review quants.

Is this opinion or fact? ;-)

Im on derivatives. Will probably be finished by Sunday.

I don't really see myself returning to the CFAI texts for much other than checking specific details for questions I get wrong and or discrepencies w/ Shweser.

I have a friend that has just started studying for the December exam a couple of weeks ago. He is working through the Quant. Schweser book right now.

Looking back to December, that is about where I was at the time getting ready for the exam next week. Plenty of time left, so no need to worry at all where you are as long as you plan to put in the time each week.

I noticed it also helps to really focus in at about a month before the exam and tie everything together. I think if you put in too much effort already you may just burn yourself out.

Why most people do not study from the CFAI books?. i thought Schweser is a summarized version of the curriculum but sometimes they miss out certain things that are important for the exam.

what do you guys think?

B/c the books have an enormous amount of info that is hard to understand sometimes.

I think that it would be very hard to read through the CFAI books and be able to retain most of the important information.

Like most people say, they make good reference books to go more in depth on materials that are not clear from Schweser study material or similar.

JP_RL_CFA & ssdnola when are you planning to finish reading CFA text? Planning to take a break for review?

I'm def being careful about not letting myself get burnt out. Like I took 5 weeks to read FSA instead of 4 and I spent an extra week on Quant. I figure summer is here I rather be ahead so that I'm not stressing out come sept time. I'll prob be done at the end of July then I have 4 months to take all the tests, review all the slides/notes/text. I'll be fine because I'm not studying like a lunatic right now, when I feel that I'm starting to drift off and not pay attention anymore I have the time to stop and take a break or call it quits for the night.

ssdnola: That's awesome that we are on the same pace, def stay in touch with me as the months go on.

rlange: I'm currently using Stalla but I read the CFAI text. I go back and forth between the material if I get stuck on the CFAI text then I'll see how stalla words it. I feel the opposite though. Stalla I feel is a good review book after you've read the CFAI text, it kinda gets rid of all the nonsense and tells you what you need to know for the test but the CFAI text is good for the first time you read the material because it kind of eases you into it and gives you a good background into what you're learning. Stalla's lectures are awesome and I picked up some of Schweser tests (the 1am-1pm kind of tests) so I'm ready to go once I complete all the material. Sorry I wrote so much!

I am in the middle of quant right now. Finished Ethics, but definitely plan to go back and reread it before the exam. I am behind where I wanted to be, but still feel pretty good that I have at least started.

I am just reading the CFAI text, but the more I read these forums, the more I'm uncertain if this is the best approach...

I would go back and forth. It doesn't matter really as long as you understand it, It's all the same material. that's all that counts. I'm def going to go back and review everything I've read, either thru the lecture slides or skimming the book but I just haven't stopped in the middle of studying and gone back and taken any tests from the sections I've read already. Stalla recommended that once a month you take a review test of old books you've read to keep it fresh in your memory and I haven't done that. Prob should tho.

I started studying last week and should be done with Quant by the end of this weekend. I'm using Schweser Notes almost exclusively and going to the CFAI Texts from time to time as needed. The PLAN is to get through the entire curriculum (except save Ethics for NOV) by the end of AUG and use the last 3 months to review, take sample exams, go through Ethics and review some more.

The last minute action on this forum in preparation for those taking the June exam seems to have really motivated me, hopefully I stick to the plan once the posts slow down after the upcoming exam weekend. Good luck to all taking the June exam, btw!

I am also in the December boat. I'm starting off slow in an effort to stave off burnout. I'm also going to use Schweser for most everything, except I feel that FSA is so important that I'm going to use Schweser with CFAI books for this topic.

i am a june taker and using the CFAI books only. well, ok, i ordered flash cards from kaplan

if you are studying for DEC NOW, you will do well. u have a ton of time. and GET THE FLASH CARDS, I WISH I GOT THEM SOONER

YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR MIND STUDYING NOW FOR DECEMBER L1!!!

take it easy, enjoy the summer and allocate your study time thinly over the next few months. already done w/ FSA and everything before it? you are at a full sprint on mile 1 of a marathon my man.

> you
> are at a full sprint on mile 1 of a marathon my
> man.

Hehe... Remember that this is just Level 1 - i.e. a full sprint on mile 1 of the first 8.67 miles (Level 1) of the full 28 mile marathon.

I have signed up for Dec 08 for Level 1.

I started last week and have completed a one time reading of ethics study session. I am half way through the first SS of Quant. I hope to complete quant by next week. I am also taking 2 classes for my part time mba ( Economics and Investment mgmt). I also work full time and i know i will slow down many times during the summer and fall semesters. I try to read a little each day ( 1-2 hours) and try to put longer on weekends. Its just my 2nd week. I feel its better to read each day to keep it going. Take a break 1 day of the week for sure.

Everyone keep in touch.
